OUR BREWERY

Established in 1930 by B.W. Hoeschen, Fort Garry Brewing Company has become a bastion of brewing excellence, upholding time-honored traditions passed down through generations.

Renowned for its commitment to quality, only the finest raw ingredients are used to craft a lineup of iconic ales and lagers, including the world-famous Fort Garry Dark, Fort Garry Rouge, Middle Province Craft Lager, and our Legendary Lemon Radler.

Fort Garry Brewing's oldest location

FORT GARRY BREWING COMPANY IS MANITOBA’S OLDEST MICROBREWERY.

Over the years, Fort Garry Brewing has seen significant developments but none more important than the resurrection of Fort Garry Brewing as we know it today by Richard Hoeschen in 1994. The brewery has consistently pushed boundaries as the Pioneers of Craft Beer in Manitoba, introducing innovative products like the Brewmaster Series, which explores the craft beer landscape with limited edition releases. In recent years, Fort Garry Brewing has continued to evolve, expanding its product line beyond beer to include ‘Ready to Drink’ products with our Hector’s Hard Beverages portfolio.

Head Brewer Josh Berscheid

Meet the Brewmaster

Meet our Head Brewer Josh Berscheid: Josh grew up in Winnipeg (Charleswood) and became interested in brewing beer while studying at the University of Manitoba. His passion for the beer industry grew and he started brewing beer at home, and at that point he knew it was time to pivot and to pursue a career in brewing. Josh then went to Olds College in Alberta where he received a diploma in Brewmaster & Brewery Operations Management.

Josh spent some time working at Half Pints Brewing & One Great City Brewing Company before finding a home at Fort Garry Brewing Company in 2019. When Josh joined the team, he wanted to shake things up a bit. He dusted off the old test-batch system and went to work creating his peanut butter and jelly sour that became an instant smash hit. Josh embraces innovation and creativity in brewing with his endless pursuit of new styles & flavours as well as improving old styles and bringing back some Fort Garry classics.

Community Engagement

Although beer is our passion, one of the pillars of Fort Garry Brewing’s core values is our commitment to community involvement. In an effort to support the health of our province, city, and community, we strive to donate our product and our time to local non-profit organizations within Manitoba.
